High Def Makep-up - Tips from the DCC

High Defenition Make-up... different for High Def Photos or Video...but some of the rules are important for everyone all the time.

For those of you who have no idea what the DCC is... where have you been???  Just kidding.  It is the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and they are amazing.  They are beautiful and talented and a lot of hard work goes into what the end up putting on the field.                                        Recently a friend of mine auditioned for the team and she made it far enough to get the "memo" about make-up tips for the girls when they are seen constantly on the giant high defenition screen in the center of Cowboys Stadium.   There was a lot of basic information in the "Make-up Tips" memo, but some stuff that surprised me a little.

I am so curious all the time about make-up suggestions given in the entertainment world, so this was so fun for me to read and think about....

DCC Make-up Tips for Finals

  • Video broadcasting tends to show colors in a more violet tone. Avoid lip colors that are too beige or plum as your lips will appear dead purple on the screen.
    • (I actually didnt know this about Video, but I am glad I do now! - Sequoia)
  • Video makes bright colors appear to glow. Avoid lip colors that are too bright, such as bright corals and hot pinks
    • (Soft pinks with a little bit of berry to deepen them show really well - Sequoia)
  • Choose lip colors that are vivid and matte.
    • (I am a huge fan of matte lips, I think it looks elegant and soft and still gives the lips definition - Sequoia)
  • Avoid dark colors and too much shimmer. No extreme Show-Girl lashes. Your makeup should be glamorous, as it would be for an appearance, with a kick. Remember your face will be seen on a 60-yard screen. If you look overdone in person, it’s over exaggerated on the big screen.
    •  (This idea is competely different to what I have always thought about performance make-up, however not team has to be seen on that huge screen - Sequoia)
  • No glitter on the eyes or face.
    • (Glitter on the face can make someone look old even in person...avoid shimmer and glitter on the face always! - Sequoia)
  • Shimmer shadows are best used as an accent. With all of the bright lights in the stadium, too much shimmer can reflect out the contour of the eyes making them appear puffy.
    • (I am always a little leary of the idea that light color or shimmer on the inner corner of the eye brightens it...sometimes I see that on screen or in person and it just looks strange it doesnt help the look at all it just looks "made up". - Sequoia)
  • Blend, blend, blend your eye shadow! Harsh eye shadow lines in person are horrible on the big screen.
    • (This is one of the best rules in the set!!!  Blending your eye shadow and your blush and bronzers really well gives such a fabulous polished look to your make-up.  It takes away the "made-up" look that lots of people feel like they have with make-up and just enhances all thier features...you stop seeing the make-up and you just see the face! - Sequoia)
    • ***Blending Class coming to Flawless Wednesday nights starting in July
  • Match your face makeup to your chest. The bright lights will make a pale face paler.
    • (Matching your face make-up to your chest is a good rule for everyone.  Matching it to your neck and you will ALWAYS have too light of a face foundation...try to avoid the tendancy to want to have a tan face compared to your chest or shoulders...if you want to look a little tanner in photos then how you appear in person, add self tanner or Body Bling to your shoulders, color bone, decollete, and then you can have a more bronzed look on your face. -Sequoia)
  • Don’t over contour your face. Keep blush placement on the apples of the cheeks. Your look should be fresh and vibrant.
    • (Kim K would not like this rule...probably wont be a DCC member anytime soon;)  I actually like a very contoured cheek, but I can understand where it would end up looking to harsh on a screen that size.  Again I think that blending is the key and choosing the right contour colors...not too much highlight when contouring either.  A little of the light on the upper cheek bones goes a long ways. - Sequoia)

Mirror Lounge perfect location for a Party

We are officially open with our new name.  We have our logo done, website up and working, signs made and set for instillation.

However, the best part of the entire name change and re-branding was the Launch Party at Mirror Nightclub, and I now have the photos back from the event to share with you.

They will also be posted all over (you guessed it) Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest!  We will show a video soon on our You Tube Channel too so make sure to follow us on one or all of these:)

The Heavenly Spies from The Can Can showed off their fabulous Burlesque show with a few toned down numbers.  They will also be performing every week at Mirror Night Club every Thursday.  Girls Night starts at 7:00pm.

Lady Yum Cake Pops
One of our favorites from the Launch Party was Lady Yum Cupcakes and Treats, thank you so much!  I have hired her again within the recent week to provide treats for a birthday party.  She is fantastic, easy to work with and totally affordable!

Lou Lou Loves Vintage Aprons
Next my girlfriend Lindsey has a line of fabulous vintage aprons called Lou Lou Loves...we have these available for purchase at Flawless Beauty Bars!  Only a few left, but they actually make me want to cook (that is a terrible idea)...also perfect for a Boudoir Photo Shoot:)

Pretty in Paisley
The newest look in the collection is a mid thigh shirt cover-up with a drawstring at the hip.  Super light and feminine shows everything you want and hides everything you hate.

The Paisley over the shoulder look comes with a head scarf and can also be warn around the waist if that is the problem area.  It is also super cute with a pair of shorts!

The Sun Qt Full Skirt look flows flawlessly when you walk and wraps effortlessly around your waist or hips to show off your assets perfectly.
Pretty in Pink
Another new look this year is our long version of the silk chiffon with an added ruffle at the top.  Pretty and light, inspired by hippie chic!
Baby Pink shows just enough
White is always in style and shows off your flawless tan perfectly.  We have the Sun Qt Full Skirt in White as well as the Tunic Style, and the Long Flowing Dress.
White Full Skirt
We cant wait to show these to everyone when they come into Flawless Beauty Bars for your next airbrush tan in Kirkland.  We will also be launching a Etsy Store for those of  you who don't live in Kirkland.  We want everyone to be able  to purchase a Sun Qt Swimsuit Cover-up.

Heel Hight - What is the right heel height for you

Miss USA
Recently when I was at the Miss USA pageant... I was checking out the 6 inch or higher heels the ladies were prancing around in. I am a heel lover, have been my whole life! Made me think why can some girls walk so easy in their heels and others haw trouble... Is it the shoe itself?... The way it fits?... Or the way you walk?...

I then watched the Miss Hooters International Pageant....they were not as graceful in thier heels and it was super noticeable!

Here is what I found out and some suggestions about how to shop for your next pair of heels!

RULES FOR HEELS
  1. When trying on heels you want to be able to stand in them and lift your heel out of the back of the shoe at least 1 inch.  That will ensure that you are able to walk in them properly.

  1. When you walk, you should still be able to walk heel toe heel toe....dont bend your knees and walk flat footed...itjust looks awkward.
  2.
    Platform Heel

  3. If you have to wear heels for a long day, then a platform is actually much more comfortable because it is less of an angle for your foot and it has padding for the ball of your foot.
  4. Get the soles of the heels repaired often, it will save the shoe and keep them soft and comfortable.
  5. If you feel like you are slipping around on a pair of shoes....for a quick fix spray glue or hairspray works great.  For a permanent fix have the soles made into a rubbery consistancy...it looks the same but is much much easier to walk in
  6.
  7. Get the heel cap replaced often.  The sound of the nail in the bottom of the heel hitting concrete or wood is awful not to metion it will ruin your shoes and maybe someones floor.  It is a cheep, quick, and easy repair.  My favorite spot is Baily's Shoe Repair in Kirkland.

Lower Heel Height no Platform Starter Heels
Last little comment, I am obessesd with Zappos.  I usually am able to get a shoe from there quicker then if I had to go to Nordstroms in Bellevue.  The shipping is free and always overnight, and they have free returns!!!  My favorite!!!!

Mirror Mirror on the wall...

Mirror Mirror on the Wall...Im the most Fabulous of the All!

Mirror Lounge is opening this week Thursday May 31st in downtown Bellevue, and we are so excited to being one step closer to having a "night life" on the Eastside.  I realize that many cities would laugh at my attempt to say that Bellevue has a nightlife, but we are getting close.

We have a comedy club now...The Parlor!...Like a dozen good bars for happy hour or dinner...a few places for music and dancing...and now there is a good place to go for a swanky atmosphere.

Part of what I love about going to Vegas, LA, or San Fransisco is that there is a huge selection of bars to have a drink with your girlfriends where you have a reason to get dolled up and meet your girlfriendsand people watch.  Admit it, that is the best part of going out is to check out everyone else!

Mirror and all of it's soft seating and lounge areas allows for you and your friends to hang out but keep an eye out for everything else going on in the bar.  Love that!!!   In order to get a table you will need to buy tickets online right away...here is where.

The grand opening is going to be fabulous...not only because the event is put on by my girlfriend Chanel and we all know she can throw a party.  But also because of the celebrity guest joining the club that night.  Carmen Electra!!!  Get more information and RSVP at Mirror Facebook Page.
Chanel and Sequoia

There will be 200 swag bags with all kinds of fabulous discounts and products.  Plus a step and repeat sponsored by Dom Perignon and your very own Flawless Beauty Bar...now who doesn't love a photo on the red carpet.  I go to events just for that reason alone!

Its not gonna be nice weather so you might as well go somewhere fun and beautiful inside, get a drink, and enjoy a big party!

Senior Portraits - Summer time is the best time

Susan Stockman Photography

Senior Picture Time.....

Done with your Junior Year in a week?...well then it is time to start thinking about your senior portraits!  Senior Portraits are a chance to capture several looks that really define who you are... and the summer time is the perfect time, with the beautiful weather and all the gorgeous natural backdrops in Washington.

What to do to prepare for your Senior Portraits and what to look for in a photographer.

    Susan Stockman Photography
  1. Find a good Photographer....I have worked with a few, and some have a really unique approach to finding photos that are perfect for YOU!  One of my favorites to work with is...Susan Stockman (photos seen here in this blog).
  2. I would always recommend trying to schedule a couple differnet days just in case the weather doesnt hold.  You are gonna want a couple shots outside, cause natural light is the very best light
  3. Make sure you have a plan of locations and travel time so that you dont waist a lot of valueable shooting time
  4. Bring many different outfits, but have an idea of what you want to wear and try them all on at home first (try and pick things that dont wrinkle easily cause you might have to keep them in the car for an extended amount of time)
  5. Get your hair and make-up done.  I realize everyone is on a budget and you have to choose what you are going to spend your money on.  I say hair and make-up because the photos are going to last a long long time and likely going to be posted everywhere (facebook, twitter, instagram, yadda yadda) and you want them to look flawless.  Plus it will likely save you money in the long run, becasue there is much less touching up that has to be done post-shoot work.
  6. Practice your smile in the mirror.  As silly as that sounds...it will really help the day you get your photos done.  Everyone has a "good" side and a look that they love...practice that so that you have many many excellent shots to choose from.
  7. Picking out looks in magazines or on Pinterest will be super helpful as well and then you have something to share with the stylist and photographer who will be helping you.

When choosing outfits, hair, and make-up...obviously this is giong to be very different for everyone.  Think about how you see yourself everyday, you dont want to look totally different then how you look each day.  Keep it fresh and soft...harsh edges to make-up and hair tend to look dated.
