The Makeup Show - Overview

Los Angeles Makeup Show

The Make-up Show - Los Angeles

I was in Los Angeles for the weekend attending The Makeup Show, a large trade show and conference that brings hundreds of makeup vendors and professionals in the industry together.  This is the first event like this I have ever been to and so I was kinda nervous about what to expect.
Best Makup Products
It was so overwhelming and intimidating the first day...I felt like I didn't even know where to begin.   I sort of stood there for a minute, head spinning starting at what was going on and trying to remember exactly what I was there to find.

Celebrity Makeup ArtistMy intentions were...

            1. Get continuing advanced education from elite celebrity makeup artists (I never have access to in the Northwest)
            2. Find professional grade products for my teams makeup kit that I would not have much access to in the Northwest (hard to buy this stuff online)
            3. Find wholesalers who can supply Flawless with  unique and fabulous products to sell to our consumer that you cant find at Sephora.

I accomplished 2 out of 3.  Education....both advanced and basic was fabulous and fascinating.  The instructors had so many great new techniques and products and tools for us, and they were so open to questions!  The workshops only had about a dozen people in them so it was very 'hands on' and interactive.  I took two classes 'Complexion and Contouring'  and 'Red Carpet Beauty'.

Before and After Makup LooksComplexion and Contouring -

Based all about how to color match people absolutely perfectly!!!!  How to correct any problem areas on any one's skin, and all the tools and techniques that are used to create that absolute flawless perfect look you see on a Lancome Billboard add.  It was amazing how simple the theories are and how little actual makeup was used and it was all about technique and placement.  At the end of the day it is all about perfect skin and absolute beauty.

Before and After Makeup Red Carpet Beauty -

This class also focused on the theory of 'less is more' placement and fixing problems.  Contouring the eyes to make they into the desired shape.  Brows and lashes...another amazing technique used was the application of lash glue to the lash line and then the lash is applied over the glue.  Did I just blow your mind?!?!?!?!  :)

Unfortunately it was not the right place to find products that I can sell in my studio...good news, I get to keep coming to LA to find exactly what I want to have at Flawless!!!  I am still on a mission to find the best products we love to try and experience and then buy at Flawless Beauty Bars!

At Home Beauty Treatments - New Day Northwest Apperance

Makeup for High Definition TV

Homemade Beauty Treatments -

Flawless Beauty Bars was recently on New Day Northwest showing Beauty Treatments you can do at home with products from your kitchen.

After a week of studying information about Kari Gran's product line and night after night trying to decide what to wear only to be told the day before I couldn't wear all white or all black...stressful for me, because those are my two favorite colors.  I had lots of help from my girlfriends picking out my clothes and accessories.
Then came the makeup and of course I went back to a classic favorite from SeaGals...MAC Cosmetics Dollymix blush and Girl About Town lipstick (totally appropriate names).  Thank goodness this was taped and aired on Valentines Day so that my pink obsession just looked festive.

Perfect Outfit For High Defenition TV
We were so excited to be invited to be part of New Day Northwest featuring products and receipts from Kari Gran.  This was so much fun, however I was way more nervous then I thought I was going to be and you can tell by the number of times I use the word "so".  We made it through and had a blast!!!  The receipts are fantastic and super simple, and I hope everyone has a chance to try them at home:)

Make sure to subscribe to our Blog for more exciting new stuff coming from Flawless Beauty Bars...you never know you might be asked to be a model on our next show:)

How to Get a Natural Looking Spray Tan

FAQ's Airbrush Tanning

(Make sure to Subscribe to our You Tube Channel for more tips and tricks)

Question:   Will my spray tan look natural?

Answer:     Yes, if you come and see us at Flawless Beauty Bars or take the following precautions when you get your spray tan

  • Make sure you have properly exfoliated your skin
  • Hydrate the extremely dry areas of your skin with body moisturizer (elbows, knees, hands, feet, and the back of the heels)
  • Remove Makeup and Deodorant (they can be a barrier to the tan or cause a funny color temporarily)
  • Pick a shade that is not too dark for you skin color.  Light medium or level 2 usually looks great on everyone.  Lighter on the face especially around the mouth and nose area will keep the tan from giving you a mustache.
  • Add a little lotion to your hands and feet after the spray tan, this will even out the tan in those areas and make them look flawless.
  • Always wear a shower cap over your hair
  • Always wipe off your palms and bottom of your feet
  • Wear loose fitting darker colored clothing so as not to cause lines or rubbing off of the spray tan
  • Make sure you are completely covered up so that you don't get rain drops on your skin to make you look spotted

Thanks for watching.  I hope these tips helped and make sure to subscribe to our channel for lots of beauty and health tips and tricks

Trends of 2013 SAG Awards

Trends from the 2013 SAG Awards

The red carpet events in Hollywood are my favorite place to see new trends.  As much as I love Fashion Week in NY and locally, this for me is the best way to see how these fabulous looks appear in person and with a full look put together.

I like choosing my favorite necklines, backless dresses, hair styles, makeup, age appropriate looks, and overall appearance.  Maybe one day I will watch the actual Awards Show.

I love the neckline in this dress.  It has a little "Dynasty" feel to it, but that makes it even better!  I love the a hint of the 80's and fabulous glam...like maybe she is just going down the grand staircase for dinner.

One of the first trends I noticed was the side swept hair on everyone.  Seems that the part on most of the ladies hair is much further over.  I think it is beautiful and a little 'old Hollywood glam' inspired.  It is nicely pulled over one shoulder which photographs flawlessly.

The next trend that I noticed over and over were dresses that are long sheer fabric with a short mini dress under neath.  Lots of lacy patterns over a short mini.  Cute...not my style, but it was everywhere.

The Favorite Smokey Eye - most popular request

perfect valentines day makeup

Why I Love This Smokey Eye

The most common request when someone comes in for makeup application or a makeup lesson with me is for a more dramatic smokey eye.

I love doing this look, it is probably my favorite.  I think it looks good on just about everyone and it is dramatic and pretty without being too trendy or harsh.

Although there are several 'interpretations' of a smokey eye, this is by far the most popular look that people want to try to achieve.

The elements that make it great...

  • a matte color under the brow to highlight the brow bone, it doesn't shine too much or catch the light when photographed
  • a matte color in the crease, soft brown in this look is warm and doesn't shimmer so it keeps the look fresh and youthful
  • a slight sheen to the lid so there is a little pop of goldish pink that fades into a light inner corner
  • a dark matte color in the corner that blends really nicely into the eye liner
  • black eye liner that lines both the waterline and the outside of the eye without smudging it too much so it wont fall below and make you look like you have a black eye
  • lots and lots of lashes and mascara
Always make sure that you apply your false eye lashes last so that the makeup doesn't fall onto the top of the lashes.  Apply mascara on the bottom first and then then top.  The bottom of the eye is easier to clean then the top if you accidentally transfer your mascara.

Cant wait to see all of your favorite smokey eye looks.  You can do so much with them without making them too harsh or dramatic.

Golden Globes 2013 Best and Worst

Golden Globes 2013- Best and Worst In My Opinion

Jodi Foster Red Carpet LookI watched the entire Golden Globes this year...actually first time ever.  Even watched "Best Score" what a boring category...not that they aren't talented...but boring.  Mostly I needed a distraction from that horrible Seahawks game against Atlanta that I still can't talk about.  (moving on)

I loved Jodi Foster's look this year, I thought for the 'Over 40' category she looked fresh and stunning and absolutely flawless makeup.  I love it when celebrities dress and have makeup appropriate for their age and style...if it isn't You...it wont look like You.

I loved Heidi Klum and her jewelry and makeup for this awards show.  Sometimes she takes the dresses too short and the hair too harsh.  I thought she looked amazing for this red carpet.  Much softer.
Best Jewelry Makeup Looks for Red Carpet

Jessica Alba was another favorite, which was strange for me because I usually don't like bright lips.  This was just another really soft pretty look.  I loved the color of this dress too...a little pageant like, but I loved it.

On to my least favorite looks of the night...Lena Dunham and Halle Berry.  This is crazy to me too, cause Halle Berry is almost always on my Favorites list.

I just felt like I loved this dress from the waist down, but the right boob looks huge and totally disproportionate to the left side.  I don't know if they needed to make it more blousey or less, but it didn't work and it was all I could look at...haha.

The worst of the night for me was Lena Dunham...she looked totally uncomfortable and awkward in every way.  And the dress itself wasn't very attractive or unique in any way.  It looked like a horrible Bridesmaid material with a Mother of the Bride Color and a Pageant Neckline...yuk.  Not to mention the very worst part of it was that she looked like she hated being in it, every time she moved was awkward and distracting.  Not worth it to wear a dress that makes you look that uncomfortable!!!

Moral of the story, dress for your own personal style, keep it soft and timeless after 40 years old!  Have someone teach you to walk in a dress and heels or don't wear them;)

Seahawks Attire

I am on my way to a Seahawks Playoff Game in Atlanta and of course I need to dress in Seahawks Gear, but I still want to look cute (Pretty Vain).

I kept everything the same from last Blue Friday and am wearing my glitter jersey (bedazzled in rhinestones) and my Seahawks diamond necklace.

It is easy to travel in and still pretty!

I also accomplished a big feat by not checking a bad this trip. I am carrying on all my luggage!!!! That is huge for me cause I am a horrible packer. I take twice as much as I need!

Job done:)
