Trends of 2013 SAG Awards

Trends from the 2013 SAG Awards

The red carpet events in Hollywood are my favorite place to see new trends.  As much as I love Fashion Week in NY and locally, this for me is the best way to see how these fabulous looks appear in person and with a full look put together.

I like choosing my favorite necklines, backless dresses, hair styles, makeup, age appropriate looks, and overall appearance.  Maybe one day I will watch the actual Awards Show.

I love the neckline in this dress.  It has a little "Dynasty" feel to it, but that makes it even better!  I love the a hint of the 80's and fabulous glam...like maybe she is just going down the grand staircase for dinner.

One of the first trends I noticed was the side swept hair on everyone.  Seems that the part on most of the ladies hair is much further over.  I think it is beautiful and a little 'old Hollywood glam' inspired.  It is nicely pulled over one shoulder which photographs flawlessly.

The next trend that I noticed over and over were dresses that are long sheer fabric with a short mini dress under neath.  Lots of lacy patterns over a short mini.  Cute...not my style, but it was everywhere.

The Favorite Smokey Eye - most popular request

perfect valentines day makeup

Why I Love This Smokey Eye

The most common request when someone comes in for makeup application or a makeup lesson with me is for a more dramatic smokey eye.

I love doing this look, it is probably my favorite.  I think it looks good on just about everyone and it is dramatic and pretty without being too trendy or harsh.

Although there are several 'interpretations' of a smokey eye, this is by far the most popular look that people want to try to achieve.

The elements that make it great...

  • a matte color under the brow to highlight the brow bone, it doesn't shine too much or catch the light when photographed
  • a matte color in the crease, soft brown in this look is warm and doesn't shimmer so it keeps the look fresh and youthful
  • a slight sheen to the lid so there is a little pop of goldish pink that fades into a light inner corner
  • a dark matte color in the corner that blends really nicely into the eye liner
  • black eye liner that lines both the waterline and the outside of the eye without smudging it too much so it wont fall below and make you look like you have a black eye
  • lots and lots of lashes and mascara
Always make sure that you apply your false eye lashes last so that the makeup doesn't fall onto the top of the lashes.  Apply mascara on the bottom first and then then top.  The bottom of the eye is easier to clean then the top if you accidentally transfer your mascara.

Cant wait to see all of your favorite smokey eye looks.  You can do so much with them without making them too harsh or dramatic.

Golden Globes 2013 Best and Worst

Golden Globes 2013- Best and Worst In My Opinion

Jodi Foster Red Carpet LookI watched the entire Golden Globes this year...actually first time ever.  Even watched "Best Score" what a boring category...not that they aren't talented...but boring.  Mostly I needed a distraction from that horrible Seahawks game against Atlanta that I still can't talk about.  (moving on)

I loved Jodi Foster's look this year, I thought for the 'Over 40' category she looked fresh and stunning and absolutely flawless makeup.  I love it when celebrities dress and have makeup appropriate for their age and style...if it isn't You...it wont look like You.

I loved Heidi Klum and her jewelry and makeup for this awards show.  Sometimes she takes the dresses too short and the hair too harsh.  I thought she looked amazing for this red carpet.  Much softer.
Best Jewelry Makeup Looks for Red Carpet

Jessica Alba was another favorite, which was strange for me because I usually don't like bright lips.  This was just another really soft pretty look.  I loved the color of this dress too...a little pageant like, but I loved it.

On to my least favorite looks of the night...Lena Dunham and Halle Berry.  This is crazy to me too, cause Halle Berry is almost always on my Favorites list.

I just felt like I loved this dress from the waist down, but the right boob looks huge and totally disproportionate to the left side.  I don't know if they needed to make it more blousey or less, but it didn't work and it was all I could look at...haha.

The worst of the night for me was Lena Dunham...she looked totally uncomfortable and awkward in every way.  And the dress itself wasn't very attractive or unique in any way.  It looked like a horrible Bridesmaid material with a Mother of the Bride Color and a Pageant Neckline...yuk.  Not to mention the very worst part of it was that she looked like she hated being in it, every time she moved was awkward and distracting.  Not worth it to wear a dress that makes you look that uncomfortable!!!

Moral of the story, dress for your own personal style, keep it soft and timeless after 40 years old!  Have someone teach you to walk in a dress and heels or don't wear them;)

Seahawks Attire

I am on my way to a Seahawks Playoff Game in Atlanta and of course I need to dress in Seahawks Gear, but I still want to look cute (Pretty Vain).

I kept everything the same from last Blue Friday and am wearing my glitter jersey (bedazzled in rhinestones) and my Seahawks diamond necklace.

It is easy to travel in and still pretty!

I also accomplished a big feat by not checking a bad this trip. I am carrying on all my luggage!!!! That is huge for me cause I am a horrible packer. I take twice as much as I need!

Job done:)

Pretty Vain - Do's and Dont's for Red Carpet Events

Pretty Vain Beauty Fahsion Entertainment

Pretty Vain on CliqVue TV - Sky Fall Private Screening

Part 1 - Rants and Raves

Chanel and Sequoia discuss Do's and Dont's for going to red carpet events in fashion and beauty...a little rant about a new reality show...and rave about the classic James Bond Girls and Cars.  Aston Martin and iPic Theaters.  iPic Theaters is an amazing place to go for a special movie...you can eat a delicious meal and have a drink during them movie.

My personal Rant about this episode...I need brighter lip stick!  Event the professionals mess up sometimes;)

James Bond Girls might all be classic beauties, but it is their names that make us laugh.  A few of our favorites on the list include...
  • Tiffany Case
  • Pussy Galore
  • Holly Goodhead
  • Plenty O'Toole
I don't know how the writers got away with some of these names, but I am glad they had a sense of humor about it...makes for something fun to talk about with each new Bond Movie!

Red Carpet Do's and Don't's...
  • Wearing a colored bra under a sheer shirt that is sure to show thru with a single flash of a photographer...even if it doesn't show up in the lights of your own home it might on the red carpet and then it is immortalized on Facebook and Google images forever
  • Wearing heels that you are not comfortable walking in...make sure you practice walking in your heels before you wear them on the Red Carpet
  • Make sure your clothes fit properly...not too over-sized and more important not too tight or short for your body type.  Dress in something that flatters you
  • Don't try a make-up trend that doesn't flatter YOU just because it is hot and trendy at the time.  The best Red Carpet look is the one you feel most comfortable in.
New Reality Show - Silicone Valley Start-ups
Although good in concept and it probably will have great drama...it made me depressed!  All I was seeing were people with multiple degrees, millions of dollars, good looks, and successful businesses...I like seeing train wrecks when I go home after a long day.  I want something to entertain me and make me feel better about the silly things I do in my life...all I felt after watching 20 minutes of Silicone Valley Start-ups was that I needed to go back to work and blog some more.  Here I am!!!  (it must have worked)

Should we Care what our Pop Culture Icons Weigh?

Did Lady Gaga call Adele Fat?...or did her Twitter followers attack because Adele started to take over Lady Gaga's world wide record sales and statistics?  Is it considered bullying...???  When you are a public figure or celebrity is your outward appearance up for comment and judgement?

Kim Kardashion has a new body conscious line of clothing out available now in the UK and soon in the US.  “We embrace our body shape and body type and want to make clothes for women who have a more realistic body,” Kardashian said of the 100-piece collection, which includes plenty of body-conscious dresses and lace-adorned blouses that you could easily imagine the famously curvy sisters wearing.
“We are like a brand for our fans – we see what our fans are asking us for from our blogs and Facebook and Twitter. That gives us the ability to communicate so directly and we see they are really loving the brand and the line being made for curvy girls,” the reality star added.

The Best Flawless Fitness in Seattle and Eastside

Healthy Lifestyle Fitness
Looking Flawless while get Fit!  I know myself and my clients are aware of how they look, so I decided to blog about fitness this time as part of our usual Beauty, Fashion, and Style in Seattle Blog.

Fitness is a big part of my life, but I have to be honest...I hate group workouts.  I have tried just about everything and they are always a good workout, but for some reason I cant get myself to go.

The only thing I really have ever totally enjoyed is running and personal training sessions.  After the "budget cuts" of 2008 ;) I had given up my personal training sessions and tried to keep it up on my own...failure.

This brings me to Fit and Flawless...I had tried Cross Fit group training in the past, not really for me (again, my issue with group fitness).  However, I did really like the exercises that they did during the Group Classes!  So I have now chosen to do personal training at the Cross Fit so that I get my training sessions and I get the great workout that Cross Fit provides.
Girl Health Seattle Fitness

Here is the other part that I have to stress!!!!  I tan ladies all day long who have all these awful bruises and war wounds from their cross fit workouts (another reason why I was scared to do it)... from Kettle Bell Swings and Box Jumps and whatever else they have them doing...yikes.  I am way to vain for all of that, so I am happy to say that I don't have any bruises...yet:)

Of course my favorite part is when I get my Flawless Tan it just makes my small muscles that much more enhanced!  I can see a difference not only in my body, but also in my energy, my strength, and my overall health.  Everyday that I work out, I crave more healthy choices of food and it reduces my tendency to have wine and lay on the couch at night;)
I would recommend either Cross Fit Classes or Personal Training at Cross Fit 425 in Bellevue.

I decided this year that I would blog about some of the experiences that I had and some of my favorite ideas and looks.  I cant wait for next year and all my winter brides!  I get so inspired by all the creative ideas that I get to see during the wedding preparation and all the looks that brides bring to me.  Now with Pinterest  (follow us) as a popular site...it has brought a visual examples of what each person is looking for.

  • One of my favorite stories is from a group of friends who have all gotten married over the last four years.  I just finished doing makeup for the fourth wedding and I have had such a great time with all of them...such beautiful weddings.
  • I also saw some of the most darling ideas for Bridesmaids gifts...a beautiful clutch filled with all the brides "favorite things" in sample sizes.  So fun and useful.

  • I met a herd of chickens that lived on "Storybook Farms"...they were called The Ladies and they wandered around and would come when you called them that.  So cute!
  • Bride and sister who looked like Kate Middelton and Pippa, just had to get a photo of them together.
